It was a great place to capture images of pilots in jets practicing their skills and manoeuvres as you said …. There aren’t many places where you can get a view of an aircraft like this… thanks for posting these well crafted captures Monkey… good to see you back too !
Thanks Clicker. there are quite a few places to view them low level there are 6 popular spots on the Mach Loop and 2 or 3 more on A5 at Ogwen valley then there is the Lake District with at 5 spots not including the towns and Scotland has quite a few. The Kyle of Lochalsh around Eileen Donan castle and the Skye bridge. Anywhere along the great glen where they travel southwest to Spleen then sharp left to Kingussie and over Insh Marshes rspb site onto either Aviemore or Loch Morlich, We dont see the Tornado now as that was retired before Covid hit and RAF frontliners dont use the Loop (long story) now but are seen daily elsewhere

I don't see why not. I usually shoot the night sky with as wide a lens as possible - which in my case is the wide end of an 18-55 on a Canon 60D. That's equivalent to around 28mm on full frame. Your lens would be equivalent to my 24mm F2.8. I've never used that for the night sky but the wider aperture might give it an advantage in terms of collecting light.
Thank you Hatter

I personally do not have any objections on a one off but of course it is Jayne’s decision and legally I suppose it's difficult to ascertain if she has given permission for someone else to post her images . ... I’ll probably have a word with some other admin members Monkey and get back to you ... cheers.
I wouldnt post any of Jaynes without first asking her as i always do

Would a 40mm f2.8 on FF be ok for the odd sky shots at night IE star trails etc

I rang my insurance company asking for a quote, Told them what we had and they had to itemise all bodies and lens and replacement costs at todays prices (£12,500 ouch) that didnt include tripods, cards, filters, bags etc good news it only put the house ins up by £30 per year

I once joined a local Photography club and found it extremely clicky and hugely orientated on competitions I did enter one and won but left soon after as it did not offer what i wanted at the time, I found it extremely hard to get involved and even talk to other members.
So i stick to taking images for me and my family as my wife also dabbles

Thank you. I had my DSLR with me as was at RAF Lakenheath but didn't really fancy swapping out the lens. Mobiles have made massive leaps in IQ and using them like this is a good substitute. They do have major limitations tcompared to a DSLR or mirrorless camera but just for point and shoot they are good
