I think that's a beautiful picture, and a beautiful girl. For that particular picture, I like the paler background, it's the two dark corners on the right which distract me.
Chris I see what you mean. My fault as this was me trying to add a vignette lol!
I just could not get it right because of the difference in shading of the background so I must pull that back a little when I edit it again.

Congratulations Kev! This is a fantastic shot and has a story there in it to tell.:)

Sorry meant to ask where do I get foam board is it from a photography store/art store or places like B&Q ?

Thank you again everyone you are way too kind!
I have a Lencarta home kit that I got about a year ago and have only had it out a few times.
I was using Charly to see how the light was falling on her from different positions and decided that I would try the feathering to get the background darker. The images taken before were a little too light for me. I used the softbox with only the back edge just off her body. I should have turned my wall lights off but forgot
I will take all your advice and have a go at getting her further from the background and also placing the light farther away too.
Fuji off to have a look at the video links they look interesting thank you.

A quick lighting question. I set up one of my lights on a grey background and as my grandaughter was staying she was my model. In the photo I was trying to make the background darker by feathering the light from the side. How would I place it to make the background darker?
I forgot to turn off my house lights which gave the Orange glow but Charly liked it so I left it in.

An update on the thread.
I got a Wacom Intous Pro and it is still very new to me. I use it for an hour or so every day and can't wait until it feels familiar to me.
I honestly think it will be a great addition to my IMac for edits and playing around with my images. I already love it when using my brush tool for masking. It will take time though to make a complete change :)

I stay a short distance from The Auld Kirk in Alloway which is the resting place of Robert Burns parents.
Very eerie place and have been there a few times trying to capture it at night. However I am never at ease there and to date have not managed to capture anything worth keeping lol!

Thanks all!
I know I will buy one as I have wanted it for such a long time.
There is a basic pad called Wacom Intous it is not too expensive but the problem is
If I love it then that money would be better spent on a Wacom Pro.
I think I am going to get the Pro and give it a try. If I hate it I can sell it on. Just need to know if the size is important eg Do I need small or medium or does any size work with all IMac screen sizes?

Hi everyone!

I am a grandmother to 6 and have photographed each and every one of them since birth but nothing like this. I wish I had known a little more about baby portraits then but hey! I have the time now lol!
Guess it is the same with all my photography I am having time now to learn but find the forum very helpful as I don't have any friends who like photography so no one to ask so thank you all I do like all the replies and advice it truly helps me a lot!

Awh! Fuji thank you so very much She truly is a beautiful little girl and I was lucky on the day as she was very content. Not up for any lying on her tummy poses but I never push it,only take what baby allows me to do and that they are happy with and mum is always by my side.
I am trying hard but know I have a way to go. I really enjoy this time and the experience with the babies.
Think I may have a go with my second light next time and try using both. One as my main and one as a fill so off on a you tube hunt now for tutorials.
