Hi everyone, does any one check the histogram after each photo? If so, can someone please explain me in plain english (or dutch) how to use it properly?
It is something I have not learned and I really should. Checked a few tutorials but I still have no idea what I am supposed to look at and what is supposed to look like.

Maybe someone knows a proper tutorial?

Basically, you don't want a lot of empty space on your histogram at either or both ends of it. You want an even spread of tones in shadows (left hand end), mid-tones (middle), and highlights (right hand end). So use your EV adjustment to balance out the histogram.

Sorry missed this but I would have posted something similar to Chris, and whilst Leon's histogram has its points a very dark or light scene with uneven tone would show something a little different and the point Chris makes about avoiding the histogram 'bumping' into one edge or the other is a very good and simple method to use.

If you watched me shooting pictures you could well accuse me of 'chimping' (not that there is anything wrong with that) as I often check the screen but I am normally looking at the histogram as I find it a useful way of checking exposure.
