GB RALLY 2011

This was the best I could do with 'panning' using my existing camera.

I thoroughly enjoy 'trying' though lol........... just need to start practicing with my D3200 now.

All comments and advice are welcome, thanks. :)

good effort,

I knowfrom experience  how hard this can be, my first race trip after upgrading from a bridge to a dslr (2nd hand bottom of the range) I realised how easy it can be with the proper equipment.

although I think my old FZ45 was probably a little more advances than your Fuji....

dont want to hijack your thread again but here's one of my better efforts :)

A much improved shot than my mrwall......I didn't use a tripod as I wanted to see the rally and not constantly shoot it, so I guess it would have turned out better.  The Fuji was a fab camera, but I pushed it to it's limits and couldn't get any more from it. Now to learn from my new baby.  :yes

I know the car is a little soft but considering your equipment I think you've done well :yes

I really don't see how a tripod could help with panning shots as the camera is moving and not static, the main issue is maintaining a slow enough shutter to convey a sense of speed that is suitable to be hand held. I've not ever photographed rallying but I would have thought that anywhere around 100 would be OK. Our saving grace is the digital age, we can set the camera to burst mode and shoot to our heart's content knowing we can always bin the tripe :yes

I never use a tripod for panning, my settings for the pan pictures below, it was glorious sunshine that day, a muggy forest will need different settings though.
