  1. Trapdoor Spider. Photo taken with my 500mm lens as it was not keen on posing for a shot with my macro lens. When I tried to get closer, I glanced away for a second and when I turned back its door was closed with no trace of it. The door (above the burrow n this photo) has a rounded sandstone on the top.
When we were school kids, these spiders lived down the back behind the peppercorn trees where the clay soil was hard and uncared for. We poured our government provided morning milk down the burrows and run off screaming if they came running out. I’m not proud of it.

  2. Apparently Pieris radae was first reported in Australia in 1929.  Like many introduced species, it soon made itself at home. Despite the bad reputation as a pest, they are quite beautiful. this one was feeding on one of Australia's everlasting daisies.

  3. Goodness me, there were some great photos to choose pic of the week from this week. well done, all of you. I loved mikbone's "reflection" and give it a highly commended award but have chosen Ryewolf's dramatic monochromatic photo of the River Dee river at night - at least  it looks like it was taken at night; perhaps it was not and Ryewolf has given it a clever night processing. Well done, Ryewolf.
