  1. Photos: "Humans of South Side, Glasgow" - street journalistic style which seems fitting for Glasgow. We stayed in Dixon Avenue near Victoria Road which is a grungy, multi-cultural district with a multitude of vaping shops (vaping is huge here), charity shops (op-shops), criminal lawyers, cafes. People ride bikes at great speed on the bike lanes beside the foot path.
  2. Excellent. What corvid is that? A crow? Or raven?
  3. I love this: minimalist and lovely clarity.
  4. How interesting. are the yellow flowers, Dandelions?
  5. Wow, I’d love to attend that event. Great photos. I hope your son is ok (if I understand correctly that he was the one hurt).
  6. It’s a very good question, Strav, and I wish I knew the answer. There were two rigs in the bay, both lit up at night. Could there be getting serviced? I am completely ignorant about oil rigs.
  7. We were travelling to catch the ferry back to the Scottish mainland as the sun was rising lighting up the wind turbine and the cottage. The oil rig shone brightly all night.
  8. Very striking feathering. I like the goose head portrait.
  9. Lovely processing, Clicker. And thank you for posting how you achieved it.
  10. Those rain clouds add some drama which is great, Colin. I like the symmetry of the first one.
  11. Looks like an enjoyable outing, Fogey. I had to look up where it is. It's good to see efforts of preserve or rehabilitate natural environments including bogs. Bogs have not been appreciated in the past.
  12. Thanks everyone! It is so interesting to taking photographs in Scotland which is so different to Australia in the subject matter, but also in the quality of the light, I think. There is light in Orkney but it is more diffused and cooler perhaps.
  13. We stopped in Inverness on the way to Orkney and I headed out in the morning with my camera as the sun rose at 4:30 am. I came across a church with this interesting headstone.
  14. After cancelling in 2020 due to Covid 19, we finally made it to Scotland where I have a lot of ancestry, especially in Orkney where we are currently staying. These are some photos I took of the millhouse in Birsay where my mother's family lived in 1780. The mill is still in operation milling ancient barley grown locally. These were given minimum post processing on my laptop so could probably be improved.
  15. Lots of architecture this week and I am choosing one of them for pic of the week, "York" by Ryewolf has a strong diagonal composition and is sharply focused. In addition the mono conversion is up to Ryewolf's usual high standard with strong contrast in the building and clouds. The link to the original post and thread is here

    York

I like the composition, Ryewolf, and the clouds are a bonus.
  17. Very moody. What time of day was it taken?
  18. Thank you so much for choosing this photo as pic of the week, Hatter. It’s always a welcome surprise. And thank you, Ryewolf and clicker, for the positive feedback. I think I’m still a macro apprentice compared to Paul though.
  19. I appreciate the intentional technical skill described. It’s good learning for me. Well done. Also appreciate the thoughtfulness Fogey has given to the selection of POTW.
  20. Great composition. Your friends purple coat works well too.
