Falkirk Wheel

Recommended Posts

We did Stirling Castle, The Wallace Monument, the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies all in one day which included travelling from Ayr. We stopped at a Haven Caravan site, we done a few of these, if you book at the right time of year and a way in advance you can get 4 nights/5 days for less than £100. We just booked for 4 nights in Norfolk in September for £59 (that's not each but in total), we usually eat out on the first day and the rest of the time we take a slow cooker, prepare in the morning and come back to food that is ready to eat.

I visited this site with my late wife, and was amaxed to read that this engineering feat takes the same amount of power to that of a domesic kettle to operate.

It really is a site to behold.

Love these! The Falkirk Wheel is on my list of places to visit :)

Depending on where you are staying is quite easy to do Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies in 1 day.

It will probably be tied in with a work trip, so it will depend on who the customer is... I might tack a couple of days onto the end of the trip if I can :)

The beauty of Archimedes principle. The weight of the tanks does not change according to the number or size of boats in them so it is always balanced, the power is only needed to overcome friction.

I love the tonal range you've achieved with these photos. Black and white always seems to me to have greater scope for expressive images.

When we visited it some years ago, we did get a short canal trip involving going up (and down) on the wheel.
