The Oh so elusive Bittern- I was lucky enough to be in the right place when this Booming Male - stuck his head up briefly- just enough time for me to lock on himand grab the shot

 

Sony a9 + Sony 200-600mm lens + Sony 1.4x TC

Well spotted! Not seen one that well for many years, though I heard one booming for the first time last weekend.

  Thank you James- I live on the Somerset Levels and have these all around me some days- very hard to grab a shot though- I'm sure you'll see one eventually

Sounds like you live in the perfect habitat for  ornithological photography ! Quite a capture Lez ... Without the boom , would you have been aware of it's presence Lez ...It IS a bit of a giveaway innit ?

I live almost in the middle of the Somerset Levels I saw the Bittern as he appeared withing 40 feet of where I was sitting

great capture, never seen or heard a Bittern yet

Great to photograph one - I've seen one locally at Brockholes Nature Reserve and also at RSPB Leighton Moss, but no images as clear as this.
