Hudswell Clarke Works No 680 32 Gothenburg 0-6-0T built in 1903 by Hudswell Clarke for the Manchester Ship Canal Railway (MSCR).

Operational on the East Lancashire Railway and painted blue so that it can be used as Thomas. The conversion to Thomas also includes a small add on to the side tanks.

An iconic  train Rye ,that   will stir many childhood memories,  some  relating to  ourselves  and the Awbry books that were   published  in the mid  forties  that we read and some relating to the   animated tv programmes that  our children and grandchildren  watched  whilst growing up.  Reginald Payne  who illustrated  the books, based  the image  of Thomas  on a real train, a prototype Billington   on the LB SCR ( London  Brighton south Coast Railway)

A lovely  set   Rye ....triggering a real bout of nostalgia ....
