The Scollop, Aldeburgh beach, Suffolk

We visited the suffolk coast for a few days last week, Had a weekend in Norfolk and a couple of days around Southwold, Thorpeness and Aldeburgh itself.

Love this, the incription says 'I hear those voices that will not be drowned'

Well caught Denis, we seem to have a lot of sculptures in and around the sea.

That wasn't there the last time I  was at Aldeburgh .... It looks pretty big  but it's quite difficult to tell   what the size is ..   I love  the fact that so many beach areas now have some wonderful sculptures      to inspire us and  make us think .....And not another person in sight Denis ...unless you've erased them  !

It is about 12 foot tall.  There were people about, but waited until two were behind the Sculpture before taking the shot. A minute later and there were ten people around it for ages! got to pick yer moment eh?

Is it made of a metal ?

Yes, but not sure what type, probable stainless steel  , kind of two tone , this from the other side...

Very interesting sculpture Denis, both sides are nice but #1 is lovely with the background sky and beach colour too.

I tried to photograph that myself a few years ago - too many people around to get a decent shot though!

Isn't it something to do with Benjamin Britten?

Made by a local Suffolk artist called Maggi Hambling and dedicated to Britten..
