Well done, great shots of an Icon Geoff !

Thanks Denis, most trains on the ELR run engine first from Bury to Rawtenstall, the Scotsman was the opposite and ran engine first from Rawtenstall to Bury, so a lot of my usual places weren't good for photographing the engine. It's running again on Fri, Sat and Sunday, so I might go out again.

Superb photos, I've got a photo of me back in 1968 of me standing on the footplate of the Flying Scotsman, I don't know how it happened, but I do know my Dad, who apparently took the photo, used to work on the railways before I was born.

I've been looking through boxes and boxes of Dad's old photos, still haven't found it, there's prints and transparencies to go through, he was a keen photographer, and the one would got me into photography, I'll keep looking until I find it.

That would be fun to see Geebee... Photographs are such a great bridge into the past  ...I'm never quite sure which comes first .... Is my memory  triggered by the photo ...  or does the photo  illuminate my memory of a particular place, face or event . Whatever the answer , I really wish my ancestors passed down a few  photos  to their descendants   over the  last  150 years . Photographs of any of my ancestors  before 1940 are like hen's teeth !
