I was going to say , that Mr Mallard  just mumbled to me ....

They are often grabbed by the crows here when they are this small  then there’s the foxes and the cats and the herons that they have to run the gauntlet from, as you said....You can see why they have a brood of 16 or more  to counteract the mortality rate . This year they seem to have been fairly lucky so far ....

We now have about 47 ducks on the pond and they are driving me mad quacking outside the garage  doors  looking  for food as  one of my neighbours  feeds them  regularly .....doh !

I remember that series you posted Rye.....  brilliant and graphic but honest. I didn't realise I had to click on that arrow to see them again ...
