Kirkstall Abbey - Leeds

On my way up t'north a couple of weeks ago I passed this fine old ruin. It's pretty atmospheric and I thought it lent itself to mono. I think some of the B&W shots look distinctly spooky but if course, there's no such thing as ghosts........are there?

It certainly is a fine  example of a Cistercian Monastery from c 1100  and amazingly wasn't completely destroyed  during   the reign of Henry VIII  as a result of the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Thomas Cromwell,  who it seems was the  instigator,  has a lot to answer for ! I  have never visited  it but recall seeing a  painting of it by JMW Turner. I must put it on my  "places to see"  list .  

It certainly looks like the Monks are  haunting the place  though David  ..😉

Yes, you might have noticed that 13th century monks hadn't quite grasped the concept of the rule of thirds though, Polly. 😆
