Church of St Rumon.

Recommended Posts

Now derelict,  this is the Church of St Rumon on the Lizard Peninsula.   Tucked away behind a farm and a couple of private cottages.

Nothing remains of the Church but the exterior walls, however the graveyard is maintained by the council.

When you say maintained ..... that appears  to be  possible a loosely accurate description ...😉 Why is it derelict Matt..it looks like it's been a  fine looking church in the past and yet it looks like there's very little online to explain why  it became derelict ... seems it was rebuilt once  in the early 1800s . It dates  back to 13th century I think and there's 52 gravestones ... It certainly has an atmosphere..

There is very little history online for this church, but I will try to find more.

The grounds are 'maintained sympathetically in line with local wildlife' according the council notice.  I think this is council speak for 'we might cut it back every now if we can be bothered'  😉
