I find this a very striking and thought provoking image; a mask upon a mask speaks to me of the layers of duplicity and deceit that lie behind the faces of many today!

Martyn we’re thinking along the same lines. I hoped it would be a bit scary and thought provoking , sign of the times I guess

You succeeded if creating a thought provoking and unsettling image was your goal. I’m interested in the project if you’d like to share.

Basically I brought this paper mache mask in a craft shop on a whim ,not really knowing what I was going to do with it. At the time I was dealing with depression and decided to use the mask to put  a face to my depression. Mainly because the mask is just scary to look at, but after experimenting with different image styles I found that if I kept the eye sockets dark I got a sinister but defiant look.
After the depression project ( unfinished) I felt that the mask and  that sinister/defiant look could be used in a way at looking at the world around us, but in a scary darker way, And possibly a bit political. A lot  of the feedback that I’ve had using this mask In images is that a lot of people find it unsettling to look at but it holds their attention, a bit like a  horror film. If it gets people to react I’m happy.
