Remembering those lost in bushfires

Yesterday I drove through Kinglake where 7 people died in our last major bushfires in 2009.

Kinglake is a small town set amongst mountainous eucalyptus forest north of Melbourne where logging and farming are the main industries. With so many bushfires still burning  in eastern Australia our atmosphere has been full of smoke for weeks giving the light a bluish hazy tint that turns golden in the late atmosphere. Quite beautiful though bad for physical and mental health.

This memorial is set on a crest high in the ranges. Not a great photo but thought I’d share.

So sad to see the pictures in the news  of  this tragedy  being played out before us ... and it seems even worse  this year..

What strikes me in particular  is just  how stalwart the attitude is by many who are interviewed , often in front of the burning embers of what  was their home and  how   they seem determined  not to let this catastrophe define them as a person . .. I have nothing but huge admiration for the Aussie Psyche  watching the news and admiration  for the courage of the firefighters ...... my sympathy for the loss of life  that has resulted from these fires  and  the decimation of so much of your wildlife ...  Thanks for sharing  Cheryl ....
