So the eldest has taken up photography this last year or so and ran with it - but he only ever shoots macro.

I got him a Panasonic GH2 with a kit lens when he started his GCSE's, added a longer zoom and a nice little prime then he fits extension tubes to control the close focus. Add a (that would be my) LED light and a (mine again) camera bag and you have his daily carry....like he never goes anywhere without it carry.

He does like spiders...

Brilliant stuff BP.....so good to see him following in your footsteps..........

ask him to look at my latest Macros using a vintage Leica slide projector lens jammed into an eBay Helical focusing tube.

Will do.

He is completely focussed on bugs - so much so he's left school with his required GCSE's, applied for a place at a zoological college and is now starting a three year animal management course that he hopes will lead onto a degree course where he can specialise in entomology. When the paperwork goes through he's going residential through the week and at 16 years old Angela is distraught he is leaving home so early. @FUJI you would love to go for a photo walk with him, his eyes are razor sharp and I guarantee you'd see things you never knew existed, learn their names and your macro work would improve because of it.

Omg   Beep where did that wee Dylan go .... in less than a year he looks all grown up!!

How good to see a probable career  developing from you giving him a camera a few years ago and encouraging him ..Seeing stuff in a macro environment has obviously triggered his curiosity to know more about this almost invisible world and what with you and Andy  as Mentors he has got a flying start ... congratulations Dylan on your attitude and ambition ... Good luck to you  young man ... you must be pretty chuffed and proud  Beepy ... I know how Ange feels but I suspect this way is a really good way of kids becoming independent ... coming home at weekends is a much more gradual way of finding your feet than  waiting till one goes to Uni and finding all of a sudden they are away for a whole term at a time ... that can be  a bit of a shock to mother AND son ..

Ever since I got my camera about 5 years ago I've enjoyed photographing bugs, most people don't appreciate the microcosm that's all around them or even see it..... Like this lacewing larvae (about 3-4mm long) that I spotted in August - they're also know as trash bugs..

Clicker is right - he has grown up - he looks a lot like you

He will go far, and good luck to him too. With his sights set high and a mentor like yourself he cannot go wrong. We'll done to him, and a big well done to you, his Parents... those formative years paid off?
