I know the feeling, there's a  good idea there but it doesn't quite gel.

I'm by no means the most qualified person here to comment, but a few ideas that may or may not be good ones.

I think that the light parts need to be a bit brighter as they don't have a real sense of luminosity (it's like looking out of the darkness into the gloom, rather than into the light). Also it may be worth cropping a bit off top & bottom (especially the latter). And lastly, since there is no real information in the dark areas it might work better if they were fully black.

Thanks for your input, James. I have followed your advice and played around it it but am still not satisfied. Time to chalk it up to experience and move on. Thanks again.
