Good luck. We are smack bang in the middle of that "magic triangle", so just shout if you have any questions about anywhere round these parts. I was out at a party in Holmfirth last night, nice place.

You should have said Richard, I'd have put the kettle on for you. Where are you thinking of moving from/to?
-
Not been contributing much lately, but don't fret, I'm still checking in on you occasionally. Bit busy with looking for a new job, and that's taking up much of my time. This teaching lark is getting me down, and I'm hoping to get back into industry like I did before (selling steel bars and forgings in UK and Europe mostly). I've got my tickets for the Photography Show at the NEC and bringing my 16 year old son for the whole of the Saturday, so maybe see some of you there? Derek
-
Well I ordered my tickets today to make myself go. Taking the train down from Sheffield. Maybe see some of you there.
-
Thanks, I'll have a go over the next week and show you the results (maybe).
-
That's interesting, I'd like to have a go at this myself, even just with my iphone. How do you join all the stills together into a movie?
-
Wanted to share one of my favourite Youtube channels, some great illusions here.
-
They don't call me Trigger Happy Taylor for nothing hehe
-
Yes it does, that is a possibility. Rearranging the folders though would be a much quicker job that tagging all my images at the moment, for what I already have.
-
I like your answer! Like someone else said, make it a 'big' angle, and it's usually obviously intentional, but a small slant, and it usually just looks like the photographer has been on the booze.
-
Lightroom for me too. I have main folders for each year, then subfolders by subject, which could be place, event etc. Thinking about it now in hindsight, it would be better the other way around; subject first, then date.

Was the strength of the waves knocking you off your feet there?

Hello and welcome. Everyone here is very friendly and supportive. I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Hi and welcome. I recently joined and found everyone very friendly and welcoming.

As a teacher (for the time being anyway), I bought my copy of Lightroom through the Adobe Education discount. Only £57.64 incl. VAT, and it arrived in just 2 days. Also my son bought Adobe Dreamweaver the same way. All you need is proof, like a scan of your payslip or a photo ID card, and you're in. So even if you're not employed in education, you might have kids or grandchildren of your own who are at school or uni, and can take advantage of this. I thought Nik Software did the same system as well, but I can't find it now: http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/catalog/software._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_education_sl_popular_uk.edu.html Hope it helps someone save a few quid. PS Just noticed they have reduced Elements 12 as well. They are the regular, full versions, just cheaper.
-
I'd really like to go to this, all depends on the cash flow nearer the time though. As it's only 2 quid extra on the door I might wait and see.
-
Yes you're right.
-
Well that's what I thought Colin, but if you took a picture of Buck House and tried to sell it, her majesty might have her minions after you (if they found out about it)?
-
Thanks I'll take a look at those videos. As for websites, I expect they are more useful as a showcase for your work rather than as a sales platform. Websites won't work unless you are actively promoting them, I'm sure that sitting back and waiting for sales will mean I'd be waiting a hell of a long time for nothing to happen.

I brought it up again because I had a couple if questions regarding the release forms that were linked. If anyone knows the answers, please let know.
-
Did any of you ever use a photo/stock agency? Just looking into the possibilities, I've been told by local photographer friends that it's more down to the volume that you have to shoot and upload to make it worthwhile. They didn't get much return, but then again they admit that they didn't put in a great deal of time and effort into it. Any recommendations and/or advice?
-
Did you get this sorted out? Try weebly.com, which is free and does not show adverts, which is why I choose it. Take a look at mine, it will give some idea of what you can do: http://www.derektaylormono.co.uk/

From the example release forms, what would you write in the space after "For good and valuable consideration of ___"? When you read the model release form conditions, it's incredible that anyone would actually agree to sign it, it looks like you are signing your life away! I'm more interested in the property releases. So is it saying that a stock agency wouldn't accept my images of a recognisable building if I didn't then go in and get someone to sign the form? Or I couldn't sell a photo of a well-known landmark building, in case the owners found out and wanted a cut of the profits? Crazy.
