  1. First off ……..A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL AT TIPF.! This is a portrait of a pro photographer friend of mine, about to demonstrate his new Leica INSTAX , camera, it produces small, instant prints, on chemical impregnated cards, which are sold in packs. It was fascinating to see the camera, do its stuff, but it isn’t for me. ‘My friend will use it as part of his family portrait , business. Apparently Fuji co-operated with Leica in the design and manufacture of these INSTAX camera’s the FUJI version is identical, except it produces Fujifilm colours, the Zleica colours are different. This portrait was shot with my , recently acquired 8 year old Leica Q camera…. a camera with oodles of punch despite being the first in the range, Leica are up to the Q3 now, a very expensive toy… My Q , hasn’t the larger sensor, or waterproofing of the later models, but it does have exactly the same, incredible 2.8 lens…which, if purchased separately for a M10 would cost as much as a Leica camera…crazy prices. An update, on my health and wellbeing, sadly my wife’s dementia is worsening, so, I now shop and cook for three…. My heart faliure is under control, but my chronic Kidney Disease is worsening. So I’ve put myself on a , kidney friendly diet, which is very challenging; my next blood test will , reveal whether I’ve managed to improve things. My mobility is restricted to a mobility scooter, so I’m seeing the world from much lower down. I am still, painting and Woodturning, in between photography and chores… FUJI
  2. Plump Red Rose-Hips , shot from my Leica Q macro setting . I’m feeling very sore just now, last Monday morning I rolled my mobility scooter, I was trapped beneath it for around 15 minutes, until neighbours heard my frantic shouts for help. I spent a good few hours in A & E , but after a full check up and 7 x-rays, no broken bones were discovered….a week later I am in agony , with severe bruising…. All because a bag hand,e caught on my mobility scooter reverse lever….a stupid mistake, by a stupid old fogey. Such is life ! FUJI!
  3. Cheers Clicker, Have you ever tried to lurk in a bright blue mobility scooter ? I can take far less candid shots now…. Also, I have a, child’s eye view of the world….quite a drastic shift. FUJI.
  4. Because of my rather delicate metabolism recently, I suffered a nasty allergic reaction to these horrors. They are harmless to all, in natural numbers but mine went bananas. Antihistamine ointment and tablets put me right in about a week……. My eyebrows and forehead were raw. Not nice at all. FUJI
  5. I had difficulty categorising this photograph of me, shot by my good pal, part time carer and good friend in Coventry City Centre last week . The other is just one of my many, Street, shots. FUJI
  6. For the next few days I will be taking a break from using my usual FUJI RX100 V camera, instead I am using, my PANASONIC GX 9 fitted with a vintage JUPITER 8 film camera lens, so fully manual. I shot a few Street Candids, and in between that, I focused on all kinds of flowers and plants seen on my journey into town. let’s see if they upload ok. Comment's and observations very welcome FUJI
  7. Thank you , positive feedback motivates me to continue , to shoot at least one decent Street Photograph a day. FUJI
  8. You are right Polly , I haven’t driven fir many years now, after two significant health issues, the first was when I broke both legs, and didn’t walk properly again for 18 months, then a couple of years later I required serious retinal surgery , after which, I see clearly without specs, but see two of everything. I wear specs with a strong left-eye prism which corrects the double vision up to a point. such is life ! FUJI
  9. Thank you Polly and Mark for the positive feedback. ‘Yes! I am settling in to shooting from my new, low, angle, it took some getting used to , at first. FUJI
  10. A good four hours of Street Photography in Leamington Spa made me very happy , if extremely cold at one point. I have to be with a minder now, a good photographer pal, who is still strong enough to take apart , then re-assemble my mobility scooter for transporting in the boot of his car, to, and from. We aim to have at least one , Street Photo shoot , a month, in different places . My current theme, is, Small Town Candids , during which I attempt to appear invisible to my subjects , whilst being as close as possible, not easy in a mobility scooter , I use tried and tested diversionary tactics as demonstrated by the famous photographer Gary Winogrand . FUJI
  11. Apologies, I realise now, that I should have thanked Hatter, not Rye….. please put it down as an….old thing. ‘’FUJI
  12. WOW! That is a fantastic surprise , Thank You Rye. Using those DIY lenses gives me great pleasure , I must admit that the results surprised me greatly too. The DOF is extremely shallow because both are used wide open, this gives the misty, dream-like atmosphere of most of them. I have created a slideshow of about 80 of them , set to choral music , they combine to produce a very pleasant photographic experience. FUJI
  13. Here you go, Polly, I found them in my archive. FUJI
  14. Hi, all, A huge thank you for the feedback…. Yes ! This was a project from two or three years ago, revisited , because yesterday, I decided to place them all in one folder, around a hundred studies, I then set a slideshow backed by choral singing , the result is an amazing presentation, which I wish I could share . ‘The lenses , as stated , were a tiny, movie camera lens, the others were , large slide projector lenses , all fitted to an M42 adapter , with hot glue and sticky-tape, I’m sure that if you go through my back posts, You will find photographs of them there. ‘Paul, the amazing horror-movie faces, are simply, the dried seed pods of the common, Snapdragon flower….there might be a few in your garden, or in a nearby garden , if you want to discover them your self. I realise that , serious macro, work needs to be spit-sharp, but I love the dreamy , Bosch - like results produced by these wide open lenses. FUJI
  15. Hi, folks, I put together a slideshow, of my Creative Macro studies, using three different, DIY lenses on my LUMIX GX9 this morning, I set the whole thing to gentle choral music. it woks beautifully , almost dream-like….. you won’t get that effect here but here is a selection, of my best…. All focus was done manually, hand-held, moving the camera back and forth extremely slowly. Focus is extremely shallow, so learning when to stop, is a fine art; but get it right, and the visual rewards are great…. One of my , DIY lenses is a tiny, movie camera one, the other two, are adapted , slide-projector lenses; one is a Leica, so very high quality. Projector lenses are available on eBay, some, very cheaply indeed, it just takes an M42 to M 4/3 rds adapter, plus a roll of masking or other tape, or even, hot glue. All photographs taken in my tiny back and front gardens. CAN I encouage you to discover the full potential of your camera’s and creativity ? FUJI ‘’FUJI
  16. Our rescue Cat, Nala , a Bengal , or, Bengal cross has grown used to our ways during the past 18 months or so, she is tuned in to what we all do on a regular basis. She loves to play, especially using the , three-way tunnel we acquired for her from Amazon ….this is how she prepares for a play session.
  17. Yesterday, my good pal, Photographer Brent, drove me and my scooter to Stratford for a Street shoot. Here a a few of my captures. FUJI FUJI

    MEN WITH BAGS

Yes! They did after quite some time making their mind up. Perhaps they had a meeting to attend , and they were reckoning times ? FUJI

    MEN WITH BAGS

This pair of smartly dressed men, were contemplating whether to stop for a coffee , this was theirs indecisive moment. FUJI
  20. Thanks Polly! yes, life has changed drastically for me, my wings have been severely , because I can use my bus pass to travel independently, and I’m strongly advised not to venture very far from my scooter. To counteract this I have just applied for a , Blue Badge, so that my photographer pal Brent, can drive me out and about in photo-shoots ; my scooter dismantles for travel. ‘Back to Photography, you are right I did use zone focusing whilst using my vintage ldnses on both my GX8 and my GX9, I still have the latter camera, so I can still do that if ai wish. My current camera ,a FUJI X100 V has a fixed lens, so, my kit is kept to an absolute minimum, if I’m out it is with me , I am known in town as, the man with a camera. it is a very special camera , one that has been compared very closely with the Leica Q2, the results are similar, except for sensor size , there are numerous YouTube videos comparing them side by side. I had a dickens of a job acquiring mine, they came out over two years ago, but the pandemic, ghen the electronic chip shortage hit production drastically. They are like , hen’s teeth to find now, they fetch full price second hand. I had a lucky break with mine, it popped up on eBay , I bid full price immediately , so after a short wait I got it got just under the list price. I have been pleasantly surprised, many times, by folks who stop me in the street to ask about it, often thinking it is a vintage film camera, others seem to see a more expensive brand. My method of Street Shooting has changed too, I much prefer getting very close, to shoot Candids, whilst attempting to remain invisible to my subjects….not the easiest thing just now. The proof of the pudding, as they say, applies here, it is a camera hard to fault. Attached is how this poor old fogey looks now, taken on an iPhone by a good friend yesterday , I was sitting in my scooter. it is good to be in touch again, I can only do my best to keep on forwarding my best work. FUJI
  21. We are never too old to learn……… after studying a number of YouTube videos on camera settings for fast-close Street Photography the following formulae really works. I have been a great fan of shooting fully manual up until yesterday. The settings… ISO =AUTO. SHUTTER SPEED AUTO minimum 2000th. APERTURE starting at 8 but can be 11-16 or 22 according to light. What was innovative yo me, is the use of the APERTURE ADJUSTMENT DIAL which offers so much control. Here are samples as…proof of the pudding. GUJI
  22. Hi, Folks! it’s me again, doing my best to continue Street shooting from the confines of my disability scooter and within my health parameters. These Candids reflect the current colourful trend in male fashion…. Not my thing, I must add. I can’t fathom how such a thing as what we knew as Gymn Shoes or Pumps , became such a fashion icon. As for me, I have had my wings severely clipped, no more independent bus journeys or walks unaccompanied for more than half a mile or les; a cardiologist has advised me strongly to remain with 50 yards of my mobility scooter. On top of my stage 3 kidney disease and heart failure, I have newly diagnosed Hypothyroidism,so lots of blood tests , heart/ pacemaker checks. Such is Life. FUJI
  23. Because my good lady isn’t as well as she used to be, I have had to rekindle my love of cooking, I used to teach it to my students years ago. Recently I treated myself to a small air-fryer oven, not the single drawer type, but a real mini fan oven, with a drop down door and rotisserie , it works beautifully and saves us money on gas bills. This is an 8inch square Bread and Butter Pudding, ideal for four good helpings , all done from scratch in less than an hour , 25 minutes baking time… A step or three away from my usual black and white, Street Candids. Shot with my iPhone 13 Pro…. FJJI
