Bloody big jaws on a harlequin larva (Harmonia axyridis)

To my eternal shame I saw one of these on my blackcurrant bush & squished it not knowing what it was. Of course, then I researched it & realised it was the leather jacketed, flick knife carrying teen ladybird. Note to self: if it looks that aggressive it's a predator & on my side.

The upside is that once I knew what it was I helped loads of them get through the next stage & am hoping that I've provided enough mess for them to get through the winter in my little garden.

Really nice shots! Particularly like no3.

Getting the shot is down to getting as close as I can to do less cropping in Photoshop. Using 3 extension tubes helps that, but the depth of field also reduces.

Other than that - it's all down to practice.

Paul.
