My Hands

This is one I'll need to keep having a go at. It was unexpectedly difficult to get. Had the remote control in my mouth until I decided to use a 12 sec timer... Silly berk!

It's not an original image but I think for every learner togger it's one that should be tried?

I would imagine this is quite difficult Darren. I quite like how you have positioned your hands. Having looked at this a few times the processing does not quite suit? It give your hands a dirty look? Only my opinion mind you. The shadow at the very bottom of frame detracts? Good effort though. Never tried this myself.

personally i agree with Kev, the shadow at the bottom really detracts from the image, but not sure how you would get around this as not technically minded im afraid ...anyone ???

I think the shadow at the very bottom may be cast by the lens or lens hood with using the pop up flash. Maybe good to experiment with off camera flash or a desk light and reflectors.

But the original intention of the post, to get a good hands B&W as an exercise works? I'm a gardener so I've often got dirty hands. I'm going to redo the shot with less harsh lighting & get everything in focus. It's a good practise shot imo.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Okay, my hands were very clean. I don't understand your problem Nanny. It's nothing to do with photography? I'm 50 years old so my hands are a bit worn as is my brain.

I just think that photographing one's hands can be a bit like the classic photo images of hands that have been offered before & nearly always they're beautiful?

I'm thinking about a better way of making the image. I haven't been successful yet but I'll keep having a go.

Show me your hands in a similar way!

I don't have a problem, Darren!

What I was saying is that hands that have some character (aged, gnarled, hard worked or whatever) make for an interesting shot.

Your hands, like mine have their own look and as you mentioned that you were a gardener, then obviously you have worked hard with those hands which makes the shot interesting.

Not much feedback on this. Any photographer should be able to do this one. Probably better than me?

Thanks Nanny.

could be bitchy here and play tit for tat but I'm not wired that way.

quite like the tones you have created....
