I need a challenge so I have decided to put the 'f8 and be there' mantra into practice.

This month I shall only ever shoot at f8 - if I want less DoF field I'll need to use a longer lens and back off a little, if I want more I'll have to get creative.

I've plenty of glass, I've a good tripod, both my main camera bodies top out at nice high shutter speeds and they both handle high ISO's reasonably well so exposure shouldn't ever be an issue.

I will keep them all in this one thread and just let it build - no idea what I'm going to end up with or if it will prove interesting but I do have a few ideas so if you don't think its completely pointless please keep checking back.

Hi! BP,

By a quirky coincidence, an ex pro, (retired) photographer and I were discussing this exact subject yesterday during a two hour session over coffee in our local COSTA ( my pub;-)

For everyday shooting my camera is set to around 5.6.........I mentioned landscape and the very small apertures used by Ansel Adams and the like.

My expert friend went on to explain, in great detail, the effects of f11 or higher on small sensors, he advised, that to prevent fringing f11 should be the smallest aperure used on a M4/3 rds camera.

I will follow your progress, comments and photographs, with interest......just to learn.

Cheers!

Absolutely - my superzoom has the usual tiny sensor and a minimum aperture of f8, which I try to avoid at all costs. The reviews said its maximum aperture of f2.8 (smaller for telephoto) was where the best results were obtainable.
