It's full of graceful proportions, a dramatic sky, and has some movement. So yes, why am I too feeling the blandness (though I wouldn't quite go that far)?

I think it maybe because your potential foreground interest (the rocks) are too small and the eye is led away from them into the middle distance. I wouldn't be displeased at all with it if I'd taken it, but as a dispassionate critic, I'd say a change of height might work. Either lower and closer to the rocks so they become the focus of interest, or higher so we can follow the stream around more than just one curve.

(I'm assuming the sky is horribly pixellated only due to web resizing).

Thanks for reply.

Couldn't get lower because of scrub/heather in the way. No stepladder or stepladder steadier person available to gain height!

The shot was actually pretty much a grab shot of the transient light as I had a walk out from the house to get some fresh air. I guess I should actually think carefully before doing landscape shots :-((

Cheers

Hello again

I should have mentioned in my earlier reply that the pixelation is my fault. The original is a 16MP raw file and in trying to comply with file size regs for posting I have compressed too far.

I've had a go at quite a drastic crop - what do you think?

Aha.

Now a stronger image. I think the greater prominence of the three rocks now close to the bottom of the frame makes a beter balanced image. Thanks for input.

I have to fight my inclination to include too much detail rather than recognise that less can be more.

I must say I normally take more time and effort to compose, crop and present prints compared to screen images. I guess it is to do with my underlying feeling that digital images are not tangible and ephemeral whereas a print is real and permanent ( well, sort of ). I need to treat my digital images more seriously although it is good to try out images without investing in ink and paper.

Cheers

Jeff
