5 crocus shots to show lovely bokeh on the Venus

Paul

Recommended Posts

Here are 5 crocus images that show the different f/stops on the Venus 60mm lens.

The images are at f/2.8 Differential focus (leaf in grass),  @ f/2.8,   @ f/2.8 with a house in the background, which is wonderfully blurred,  @ f/5.6 so you can see the depth of field on its way upwards,  at lastly at f/8, expanding the depth of field a little more.

Try to see the detail in that fallen leaf, and the droplets of water on some of the petals - all of which are resolved extremely well by this lens.

Just fantastic Paul........the colours are perfect:

Your Ephotozine review of the lens is excellent, I can appreciate your diffusion challenges now ;-)

FUJI

It does take a lovely photo. No 2 is great apart from the distracting brown bokeh in the foreground ;)

Thank you both :)

Aye it renders spectral highlights nicely with little or no edging and they hold shape towards the corners which is excellent.

Surprisingly good quality for the money. Just shows what can really be done when manufacturers work on something. Imagine the price if Canon or Niton were to make one...

Strange you mention that as a positive Phil, aside from that you can clearly see the detail better for it.

I use actions in PS to resize for web use, and I usually run one by a chap called Steve Perry, which sets the size at various pixels, of which I normally use 1024. These display very well on here when viewed large.

However, for these, I used a new action from a Facebook contact who uses a different sharpening method and resizes at 2048 pixels. I think his sharpening method works very very well, but, it's designed for use at 2048 only, and as a consequence, trying to reduce the pixels to 1024 in the action  makes it lose some of the benefit of the sharpening and resizing. I think he is looking in to an update the action for 1024 pixel forum usage in the very near future.

Many forums are coded to restrict the maximum size of 1024px no matter what size is posted, TIPF doesn't - hence you get tp see them here in all their glory.

Because you posted these as examples from the lens they needed posting large, that said, it might be a different story if they were uploaded and not externally linked. ;)

A few years ago I purchased (yes, purchased) a set of actions by Tony Kuyper, I use them mainly for web sharpening but they work at any given size. They also include luminosity masks which are invaluable to me now.

I didn't realise I had externally linked them - my bad (or good as it proved)... I thought I had done them the TIPF way...

I don't often buy actions. Having bought CC, I spent enough for one year especially having bought the glass!

That said, they do look quite clever, but to rich for my bank account.

Nope, my "mistake" (ruddy Americanisms ;) ), these are uploaded.

Now I am puzzled. You should only be able to upload a maximum of 300kb per post, each of these images are almost that on their own. Investigation time :yes

Now this is where I can enlighten you, O forum owner! I've noticed that if I make consecutive uploads (300kb maximum per post), the forum combines the shots into one post.
