BARE BACK RIDER

Recommended Posts

The late,  well known Sculptor, Sir Walter Ritchie lived in Kenilworth until he dies, the front garden of one of his houses still has one of his early works on display; this nubile young lady riding bareback on a horse.

As you can see, lichen, moss and wind erosion have all played their part in giving her a distinct texture:

Sir Walter Ritchie designed and created dozens of very 1960s sculpted brick panel reliefs for Schools, and public buildings countrywide; some of his best used to be an important part of the Post War Shopping Centre in Coventry; they were removed when the unsightly shopping Mall was built.

I think that they are al on display alongside the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum now?

The sculpor was a pupil of the notorious ERIC GILL...he is worth Googling for further information:

This is a nice capture FUJI. The light brings out the detail and colour on the statue nicely. The moss etc adds variety to the colour. The range from light to dark is emphasised nicely on the statue by the direction of the light. Works well against the darker background.

ye gods Fuji I am glad you included an explanation

It looks like a young lady climbing into a massive set of false teeth

LOL! Fuzzy...

It is in fact one of those wild horses of the Waves...a Kelpie ??? I think...

.....What you see as teeth is the stylised mane of the lunging horse:
