Brought this in from the garden, as my knees aren't up to prolonged kneeling any more.  Used extension tubes to get close in, but having to hold steady and reduce DoF make it a very difficult task.  Don't think I'll be doing too many more creatures, as they don't hold still long enough.

The white background was a piece of perspex placed on the coffee table and sunlight from the window.  I often work with a friend who does proper macro shots of bees and hoverflies and suchlike.  I can't cope with creatures that move, but he casually holds his 5D Mk3 in one hand, a flash gun in the other and snaps away and gets the most amazing pictures of tiny eyes and feet etc.  I can't compete, so think I will stick to my portrait stuff in future :-)

 

You can buy cheap bits of coloured perspex and acrylic mirror on eBay for under a fiver.
