Stone Jetty Lighthouse

I took this shot this evening and did a mono conversion. I thought the sky needed some interest so I blended in a section of sky from another photo. As I was comparing the two images my wife walked past and said, "You've just b****y ruined that!" She really likes the plain sky and has requested a large print for the wall.

Please feel free to comment, good or bad; and don't worry, she won't see this post.

I'm with your wife.

I'm sorry, I'll read that again.

I'm with your wife on this...

There's an elegant simplicity about the first shot, and the eye goes straight to the main subject, which is framed well by its 'plain' surrounds. I suspect it might be a different matter with the colour versions though...

Yep, sorry Martyn but she is right. I think the clouds would have worked better if the relative size of the main subject was bigger. As it is, there is too much competition from the clouds losing those all so important pinpricks of light. The first one has a feeling of calm, quiet and peace which will make a great picture on the wall, a picture you can look into rather than at.

........ The first one has a feeling of calm, quiet and peace ......

I think that quite funny really; the wind was gusting up to 85mph according to the forecast. I was crouching behind a groin on the beach to try and hold the camera still and the sand being carried in the wind was painful on the back of my legs even though I was wearing jeans.

Trying to get back to the van walking against the weather was a whole 'nother story, I wished I'd stayed at home. I managed to keep my camera safe tucked inside my jacket, but my glasses are ruined even though I had my beanie hat pulled down over my face!
