Thanks for all the comments and suggestions regarding the original high key version, I decided to go back to this image and look at it differently.

I did a mono conversion in Photomatix and then cropped some of the sky from the top.

Thanks Fuji and Geoff, for the comments and suggestions - I have edited the first so the sky is white (which is I think the one you meant) and you are right it did need the lightening.

 

As I said in my intial post, these were 2 images that I'd discarded other than to play around with the high key filter. Obviously I did see something intersting in the scene or I wouldn't have took the shots. I just wasn't sure what to do with them, so all your comments have been useful.
