I don't care about the background.......this is a real winner of a shot for me........pyramid composition really works.

My only crit would be about the twigs intruding on the right hand side......you should be able to clone them out.

But far better done in the viewfinder than later........

I took the pic with my zoom lens. There is an expanse of water behind the rushes and then the fairly steep bank of the lake.

 

Ok - so the 'white against blue' is the reflection of the rushes in the water? This raises another puzzle - if you were shooting low down (as it appears you were), how on earth did you get the water as a background, not sky?

Here's another pic I took at the same time but from a slightly different angle. The background is clearer in this one.
