Thanks Korky. I left for the show knowing I would have limitation, but discovered that there was still a composition of the bigger picture to find. It was good learning for me. Mind you, I was a little jealous about the guy next to me with the 400mm lens. :)

One advantage of my (derided) superzoom is that it takes me to 486mm (equivalent) :) Very handy for situations like this.

Chris / Paul - thanks to both of you for commenting.

I have just opened the box to a nice new pristine lens, L 70 - 300, so I will be definitely getting a little closer next time around. Looking forward to having a play with the new kit.

The arrows often do better with a wider shot, as do many formation acts. This is a nicely composed shot that you would have missed with a longer lens.

If you can get your hands on an additional body so you can have one with a longer lens than the other it helps a great deal in remaining as versatile as you can

Thanks for the positive comment.

I do have a second body, a 40d that has hardly been used for over a year. I like this tip. I had not thought of this. Cheers.

well if you are looking for air shots get your bum over here to Coningsby, Euro fighters and Awacs a plenty, plus you might catch the arrows near Scampton at some point allowing for out-of UK winter training
