Little Gransden Airshow

My first time at this wonderful show, which was packed due to the booking of the two Lancaster bombers.

The arrival of the bombers was preceded with a small service attended by some veterans that flew Lancasters in the war. Also, they had bagpipes play a fitting tune and as the Lancasters arrived it was all a bit emotional.

Firstly - a couple of the Lancasters:

Another Avro aircraft turned up and made everyone even happier with its antics, the Vulcan!

Now thats airshow photography :) that is a great set James !

(Miles better than i managed from a stubble field half a mile north of the show, the lancs were too far and I only got one what i call decent shot of the Vulcan. Hope to better at Duxford on the 12th Sept)

Thanks for the kind words, Denis. I too am looking forward to Duxford! I'll be there both days with luck :)

Smashing shots Jam

When I first looked I thought No1 was a huge bi plane

Especially like the mustang and the hurricane right down to the prop blur

If anyone (flying fan) is intrested here is the details of the hurricane

Thanks, fuzzy. The 'Hurri Bomber' certainly is an interesting aircraft :)

Cracking set of shots James!

Thanks, Martyn :)

Another superb set, the Vulcan shots are great I only wish she was a little closer on take-off when the other day,  perhaps I really must go to an air show.

The Mustang is outstanding, can I ask what lens you are using?

Hi Colin,

Thanks for the kind comments.

I have an EF300mm f/2.8 L IS - it used to be a motorbike once upon a time! I was using it with a 1.4 extender for the show.

how do you get on with the extender? I have looked at one for my 300mm but as my lens is only  f/4.5 at it's widest any light fall off concerns me ??? Not sure my budget would go to a 2.8.

I find it works excellently. I've tried it with the 300 f/4 before now and found it to work well.

The 2x doesn't work well in poor light and might disable the Af depending on your body.

I had to have a back operation a few years back which led to giving up my motorcycle which then sat there doing nothing, so I sold it and bought the lens which I use all the time :)

If you're unsure about an extender you could try hiring one (lenses for hire are an excellent company who I have used many times) to see how you get on with it.

I think all of the photos above were taken with it on.

I used a 1.4 extender back in the day, with my 135mm Minolta Rokkor MD prime (lovely lens), and there was very little fall off in quality or - as I remember - light. (The Rokkor was f2.8)

Thanks for the kind re

You did a great job with this set. Lovely and clear all round.
I struggled on Sunday to get a couple.

Great set..

A grand set of images all round - excellent work!

My pictorial eye is very much drawn to the last image. Superb!

Thanks for the kind words all :)
