great shot Bill, just wondering if a more square type crop to lose some of the left hand side would work?

Indeed lovely shot, and I agree about the crop. but not square, more a portrait shape crop just left to the pump

I really like this version just as it is.

What time did you have to be out to get the mist?

This was taken at 6:30 but I had been on location since 5:30 and was up just after 4:00.

This time of year is quite civilised, it gets harder as the year wears on.

Very very lovely....

I was trying to imagine it cropped and wondered why would you crop it?

it is a wonderful picture and I'm not taking anything away from that fact but for me as a viewer the space on the left seems to unbalance the image. I wondered how it would look with a crop to the river bank and a touch off the sky. Not as a portrait as I think that would be too much but to bring the river more central.

for me the left side looks mysterious.  It distracts me from the pump. maybe done on purpose? If you split the photo in half you have a more balanced photo.

I do like the mist and the reflection and I am a fan of the pump.

It's all pretty much been said, but............

You must have at least one lousy shot somewhere - the one with a wonky horizon, the one where the model shut her eyes, the one where you went all 'street' and photographed a dog turd at a bus stop.

One rubbish shot, Bill, one rubbish shot is all I ask - then you can go back to dazzling us with your brilliant images. But we, at least, will know you're human.

If you're really struggling, I can lend you a few.

I just don't see this. To me, the composition has a perfect balance. The mill has the canal leading the eye straight to it, but on the edges of vision the scene is in its complete context of sunrise clouds and sky, mist, and frosty field. If it was cropped, it would be a different picture - maybe no worse, but not the same.
