Gorgeous Female Zebra Jumping Spider (Salticus scenicus)

Recommended Posts

A common jumping spider found across the UK. Jumping Spiders do not make webs. Instead they jump onto their prey with great accuracy and quickly inflict a lethal venomous bite. She is very small just now, maybe 3mm, so a bit of growing up to do to reach a possible 5-7mm.

Is she actually mid jump in the first one? It looks as if she is.

I don't think so - in fact I don't recall her "jumping" anywhere. You can see strands of her silk though in a few places.

Hell's teeth, Paul!  How do you get such clarity? .................. more to the point how do you manage to spot such a tiny subject?

It's all down to trying to get the focus right, then some careful editing in Lightroom & Photoshop.

I spotted her on the floor - quite lucky really, as I wasn't out looking for photo opportunities at the time!
