This is turning out to be a very interesting, noisy st times week.......this amazing set-up can plane , then spit out a road surface down to 3 to 6 inches... ...between 09:00 and 16:00 the other day it did circa half a mile, and had traffic flowing for schools traffic... the same the next day.... ..

 

Fascinating to watch.... a great gang of experienced guys.... all happy to explain the process.

That, Rye...is exactly why ours is being done.... ..it is a main route through town, past our house.... the rattle and crashing of empty trucks driving over potholes and clanging manholes was driving everyone nuts...never mind the wear and tear on vehicles....  This action must cost millions to do.......our road is closed between 09:00 and 16:00 every day currently... with much of the town to follow.........

Back to the images, they are very interesting, not quite seen anything like it. My road has been marked out using spray paint so looks like they might actually get around to fixing it. The section of the road marked looks worse than the images from the new Mars Rover....

This is what a fully ...Planed....road looks like....

‘The whole top 4 - 6 inches has been scraped, lifted, ground into a gravel-like mix, that is then ejected into a moving lorry , to be retuned to a depot for treatment and recycling as a new road somewhere else.......

That amazing machine leaves a deeply toothed surface left by the cutting/grinding mechanism...a bit like sharp tank  tracks.... it leaves a surface that ...minus all road markings, and with all ironworks such as drains and manholes raised... ..but at least residents have access and traffic can flow after 4 pm....a brilliant solution all round.
