Ware Park Mill

Recommended Posts

Built originally in the 1700's, Ware park mill stood here on the side of the River Lea. Used first for flour and animal feed it was bought by Thomas Theobold & Samuel Colman in 1821. Samuel was the brother of Jerimiah Colman (of the Mustard fame) and was rebuilt to work silk. It was an 'Overshot Mill' meaning the water entered the top of the wheel and was the only watermill of its type in the county. Demolished by 1951  all that remains is the Millrace and the Tailrace where the water that powered the mill exited back into the River.
