That's a nice clean backdrop for a bird portrait Cheryl.. what sort of distance was  it from you .. It is a stunning colour as John says and very well captured ... I found this clip of one singing a very  distinctive call ... I see the  females are very  drab in comparison ; a familiar trait in the bird world it seems ......

Thank you for your comments, Polly. Yes, the male’s colour is striking and definitely out to get attention. I was about 4 metres from it, so quite close. It was with a female feeding in the box thorn bushes and quite absorbed in that.
