Red legged shieldbug (to you and me).

I don't see as many of this species - mine tend to be the hawthorn bug, but always nice to find one.

Nice Paul, seen a few of these this year. Mind you the last 3 days I've been out with my macro setup not really found anything new that I haven't seen before, even the hoverflies are starting to disappear.....

I've seen very little worth chasing too. It's already getting sparse on the bug front, but still tie for more hopefully.

The cooler weather is starting a bit earlier  it seems ..... definitely a bit of an Autumnal vibe in the air ...  great colour and texture evident on your image  Paul ...looks  like leather almost !

WOW! an incredible macro of a fascinating insect.... probably not good news for gardeners though ?

 

please folks....don’t give up on your Macro gear, during winter....there are bags of opportunities if you leave a few logs, on end and side on in the garden....just turn them over every so often then replace on the same side....
 

ensure that a number of broad leaves are allowed to remain in various spots.... Springtails in particular will be found underneath on the coldest of days....
