Starting the diffusion trial...

I made my own ring flash diffuser last time I had all my kit, so now I am trying to get the flash diffused the same way.

Similar materials, though like as not, they'll all be different densities from last time, so I am going to trial things.

Need to reduce the two half-rings that ringflashes create.

First attempt tonight - and yes, I clipped the wing of the fly that was trapped and buzzing as it attempted an escape from the spider's sticky strand of web (schoolboy error) but now I have something to work on.

You'll have to show the diffusers and how you made them. You never know you might get a lucrative business selling them.... I know I'd buy some

Haha, there's no market for junk and scissors cuts...

All there is to this current set up is thin pieces of polystyrene over the two sides of the flash, on top of those is a pieces of white plastic milk bottle.

That's where I am at for now....

I've used a double layer of white handkerchief before now.  I doubt that it is as effective but it's cheap and easy to carry.

Good idea, though not on a ring flash I fancy, but in a mounted gun, yea!

Adding an extra layer of poly foam doesn't really help remove or greatly reduce the rings on shiny surface, but the light on the ice was better controlled, on these blackberries from out of the freezer:
