New Lens Day

Recommended Posts

Just received a secondhand Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM, came in the original box with front/rear caps, tripod mount, softbox, software and a Hoya 77mm UV Filter. I have to say it's in excellent condition with just a few barely noticeable scuff marks on the paintwork, there's a few scratches and marks on the lens hood and there's no visible dust in the lens itself. It's a Push/Pull telephoto which takes a bit of getting used too, it also has a friction ring just behind the focus ring to stop any creep when tighten. It focuses at 0.7m or approx 2ft 4 inches in old money, which is very good for a biggish telephoto. As it's a L series lens I expect the images to be very good, focusing seems pretty rapid and virtually silent. However it is a bit of a beast weight wise, infact I think it's heavier than my big Sigma 150-600mm C...

Anyway a images:

What is the weight in old fashioned lb's & oz's ?

It's just short of 5lbs or around 2.2 kilos, if you see anyone with these white lenses you'll know there are the top of the range professional L series - they are usually fully weather sealed and the best optics of the canon range.

Looks a bit of a beast but you can forgive anything if it makes a good image.

Indeed, here are 3 shots I took today, the first is at 28mm, the second at 300mm and the third is a 100% crop of the second image...
