Polly, I really like the the idea and the effect you have created here particularly how you have just retained some subtle colour to the point where I can see this a wall hanger.  However, what bothers me a little is the lamp post.  The extra bit of detail it provides is I think needed, but It's dominance and tends to split the comp. into two parts. The trouble is that I'm not sure what you can do about it.

I agree  with you John ..       I may go back and just remove it altogether before  processing or  reduce the saturation to help it disappear  and fade into oblivion....  .. I’ll have a go at it again later   .... but meanwhile thanks very much for you constructive feedback .. tis really appreciated . One’s  never sure  when embarking on these manipulation adventures, just whether it will work out like you want it to ...so thanks for the encouragement.?

Here we go...   I've tried  to make it less obvious without removing it altogether ... I have  couple of other pics in the same street ....slightly different point of view so I my try with those and or start afresh with the original and remove the post completely before processing it ..see what you think ...it's a bit better I suppose...

Every time it rains I  try to get photos of the rain spattered windows upstairs with just the sky in view so that it isn't always the same overlay I use ...So far they all have clouds in varying degrees of drama so I really want a flat grey  sky now  to add to my library ... Of course this isn't everyone's cup of tea in photography  and I understand  that....

Oh ... for anyone who is interested , here is what the original  pic looked like before the crop.. I took  few  with the intention of  using them as a base point for an image  that was impressionistic, using reflections ...

Here is a view looking the opposite way...  this time I did a motion blur vertically first ....then a very small one horizontally ..dialled back the  saturation, then  used the history brush to retrieve slight amount of detail before adding  that rainy window overlay...It's all a bit of trial and error  though ..

Texting in the rain ..
