It IS a great place to get  portraits I agree John ... I prefer the second one here ...only because something feels not quite right about the really dark / black background in the doorway  behind the crofter in #1.. It feels overly dark and heavy considering the light on his face and head and subsequently seems to upset the overall balance..  ... .. T'is of course just my observation ...  he looks pleased to have his photo taken  too doesn't he?

A couple of excellent portraits, it's also on my list of places to visit. I went to Blists Hill in Telford on the recommendation of Korky after our Stratford 2017 meetup and it was excellent.

Another place I must visit one day..... sigh !

It'd be a fair ole drive for you Denis, google maps says 261 miles....

Non-crop for me - I really like the way he's leaning on the door frame - a good idea to remove the figure in the background.

The problem I found with Beamish was that one day wasn't enough. There's so much to see, do and photograph.

Thanks all for the comments and prompts.  The final version of the Crofter is definitely the better version.

@CM Beamish is an outdoor living museum that shows life earlier last century - around about 1920 or thereabouts.  It is set out as a town with surrounding farms, a colliery and it's own transport system comprising trains, trams and omnibuses.  All the shops garages etc are manned by people in period dress.  It is a fascinating and a full day out (at least).
