Young (edited) Great Crested Grebe

Spotted this juvenile Cororant on the River Stort this morning, never seen a young one before, and completely on it's own.

Aw..... Hope he's old enough to make his way in life ... maybe Mum and Dad were not far away and just  practising sending him out into the big wide world alone to get some experience...

I wouldn't have recognised it for what it is - but I will in future ........

Sorry to be a pooper, but I don't think its a cormorant. The beak is wrong and the immature cormorants are fairly uniform dark on top (light underneath).

I'm fairly sure it's a first year great crested grebe.

Well James, I bow to your greater Knowledge not ever having seen a young G C Grebe either, it made me think of a Cormorant in the way it dived searching for fish to eat.

Yes, I was just going to say after looking at it again today that it looked more like a juvenile Great Crested Grebe
