I took this shot on one of my many holidays on the Canary Island of La Palma, that's Tenerife on the horizon far right. I stitched two images together.

A sea of clouds!  How high were you, John?

The highest point on La Palma is 7,960 feet above sea level and I was a few hundred feet lower, Tenerife in the distance has the highest point on Spanish territory, Mount Teide is 12,200 feet above sea level, it's quite an experience to go up there in the cable car.

If I've done the maths right, that's 2449 metres.  For context: Ben Nevis is 1345 metres and Snowdon is 1085 metres.

I took this at the highest point on La Palma.

Interesting.... I'd always thought 1 metre was 39 inches, but Google tells me it's actually 39.37 inches.
That extra 0.37 of an inch makes a difference when there are so many metres!

(7960 x 12/39 = 2449.   7960 x 12/39.37 = 2426.)
