A change of life ahead......

Had a visit and discussion with a real estate agent today. Looks like our house and property will be on the market in a couple of weeks, and he reckons, with our Spring on the horizon, it will sell quickly as a 'tree change property'.

This is not something unexpected, we have discussed with family a few times, and we will be moving closer to our son, who was going to buy an investment property and rent it out. Now, he will still buy the property, with some input from us, and we will live in it, and that means we will only be 15 minutes from family help or support, and also closer to things we need - like Oncology. Will only be 15 minutes, instead of 1 hour away.

We have loved our 40 acres of space, peace and 'natural habitat' for 15 years, but due to health issues it is time to move to somewhere more manageable. So, may be a few busy weeks ahead! The area we will be moving to is Traralgon, at least 400 klms away from where we are now, and not quite as remote, but still a 'rural town' with some nice areas within reach.

Gosh Dee ... a big undertaking  but understandable given the circumstances with David ..... I have no doubt you’ll miss the open Bush and remote feeling to your lives but there will probably  be a sense of relief too at not being so far from your family at a time when it can be reassuring to have help and support , quite a bit closer to hand. I take my hat off to you  the way you have managed to stay so cheerful and supportive to the Forum despite  your health issues  and David’s and I wish you both the very best in a quick sale  and a trouble free move once the house and land goes on the market ....  another chapter in the book we call Life Dee .....  you are an inspiring lady ... Good luck with your new venture xx

Sorry to hear you are having to give up on the farmstead you have, with the peace and tranquility it offers Dee. I hope the move goes well.

Although living in a very rural area is preferable , the shortfalls increase as we get older and need basic amenities closer to home. A point i have been telling the wife's mum for years.

She lives in very rural Lincolnshire, with the doctors, hospital, Dentist all a good bus ride away in opposite directions with a bus service that is shaky to say the least. At 80 years old it gets harder for her, and us. We are three hours away by car if anything should happen and have been trying to get her to move back to where her remaining family are. But she is stuck, the lovely bungalow they bought new in 1986 is only worth £130000, the cheapest one bed flat in this town is £160000.

Thank you all for the nice thoughts, it is 'a rationalisation' project, to make it easier in the future to meet our needs, and David also wants to be settled in his mind that should something happen quicker than we hope for, I will be comfortable, in a manageable place and near supportive family. Plus also, if we move now we still have time to settle into a new life and meet new people, and we already know a few really nice places to go from that area. Will keep you updated as to what is happening and when.

One heck of a day yesterday - I am now in crutches because my hip is so unstable and we got a call from the real estate agent. He wanted to come a day earlier than scheduled to take pictures inside the house. Thankfully I had a friend able to come in and do a complete furniture move and vacuum, but even so I was 'on the go' most of the day. Looks like the house will be on the market after this weekend, and he already has a couple of people interested.

Phew!! Double sherry at tea time yesterday, and sorry for the inactivity. We may do something nice today.

Just a brief update - what a week!!

Yesterday had to hire a car trailer and take one of our station wagons, (I think you call them estates), to Bendigo to have the gear box replaced because it died on us.

Phone call today from the Real Estate agent - is it ok for him to come for a viewing on Saturday, may be more than one person interested, yes it is ok.

Tomorrow David's chemo day and I have an appointment at a specialist Orthopaedic Clinic to assess my hip, that will be a fairly long day.

Thursday we have to travel again to another town and provide information and identification docs. to the firm that will be doing our conveyancing, so had to go through heaps of stuff today to find our passports, wedding certificate etc.

Friday will be 'get ready for Saturday' day, after we have been to Bendigo again, for David to get the bottle removed. Think I'm going to be a bit worn out to do too much on here, sorry, but I will do what I can, as and when I can.

Dee ... Call in just whenever you can ... we all understand how busy life can be  and you have enough on you plate at the moment ... apologies are certainly NOT  necessary  though I know sometimes it’s good just to  chill out for five minutes with a coffee and catch up with our gossip ...  So use this thread  as a quick pop  in when you have a couple of minutes  even if it’s just to scream ... ARghhhh... ?

Good luck with your hip assessment ... here’s to a replacement eh. ...  xx

First house viewing over, after several hours of me trying to do cleaning and tidying. Sitting down now with a frothy coffee, and a couple of nice wafer biscuits. Apparently another potential viewing tomorrow or Monday, but the work I did today will pay off and last. I have a picture in mind for the 'H' series, just letting my hip settle down a bit before I go out again.

Just catching up with your news Dee.  I had no idea of the extent of your trials and moving home on top will be a burden for a while.  I had a tour of Traralgon care of Google (many photographs).  It looks to be quite a thriving place but clearly not what you have been used to.  I hope all goes well and you settle into your new life fairly quickly.  Keep us up to date from time to time when you can.

Thank you John, we do know the area we are heading for and I will only be 20minutes away from family support and help. Plus there are some nice areas we can get to - for example the High Country, which we love, is much easier to get to, and so is a beach!

Two viewings of the house, one on Saturday and one today. Today's lookers were very interested, so much in fact that they chose to drive their brand new Boxster Porsche around the other side of the block, where I walk the girls! Don't know anything as yet, but we feel they will be in contact.

Large skip bin coming today, son Jason coming for the day tomorrow to help us unload some stuff we not longer want.

3 more viewings scheduled for the weekend, but we don't know what times as yet.

I'm struggling to walk and cope with things. My hip prob. has been assessed as a Category 2 replacement, that means within 3 months, as it is not Cat.1 - life threatening, or Cat.3 - mild and non urgent.

I can tell you that the sherry & tonic I have every night with tea is going down very well!!

Hang in there.  I've seen hip replacements that were life changing.  Someone who mentored me early on in my career had one and when I asked hid what the main plus had been, he said "I can dance with my daughter again".

Thanks John - I am very much looking forward to being able to be more active, and as an ex- Strength Trainer, Fitness Instructor, and Tai Chi Instructor, (only retired 3 years ago because of David's condition), you can imagine how this unexpected condition is driving me totally 'round the bend'!

Two more viewings of the house today - one lot were here for a second look. More coming on Saturday apparently. David's chemo day today so I really struggled to do the vacuuming etc whilst on my crutches but did it! David will be home any minute now and we can settle down and relax for the rest of the evening. Phew!!

  • 1 month later...

Well, it has been a very busy couple of weeks with house viewings and Bendigo trips etc, however, it looks like we have had a genuine and acceptable offer for the property!!

Don't know as yet if it will be a 30 day or a 60 day contract but we have already started packing, sorting and moving stuff.

It's David's 'green weekend' after his chemo, so we're taking a day off from tasks today and heading to Dunnolly Bakery for our favourite lunch and a nice little trot around in the bush for Kelly & Brodie.

Very much missing activity on here, sorry, but simply managing what we can and as and when we can.

Your impending move and family come first Dee, I have not been out taking photos at all over the last few weeks.

I have a lot on my plate too at the moment and was able to get out today for a couple of hours watching the Kites over the farm, really made a change!

Hope all goes to plan over the next few weeks, so plenty of goodwill wished upon you both!
