Duck End Nature Reserve is in Maulden, near Ampthill.  This place is only about 15 minutes drive from where I live, but I didn't know it was there... until yesterday.  Photos from a Hitchin Camera Club trip out on a Saturday morning....

All taken with a Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro lens - but quite heavily cropped.  The Damselfly and the Gatekeeper that I posted in the "Colour" thread were from the same session.

Really nice I think the grasshopper is my favorite of the set.

Undiscovered local places are a wonderful find. I use the googling online map thingy is a great tool to zoom round locally sometimes comes up with some unusual finds. I didn't realize how much green space was dotted around the town center.

I think your last image is a hoverfly: Pellucid Fly - Volucella pellucens Sometimes called the Pellucid Hoverfly, it's a bee mimic....

Useful info - thanks, Geoff.

Well, that's also a new one on me, I would have gone for grasshopper too....

I knew it wasn't a grasshopper  by the antenna so went off and looked it up, I have always wanted to photograph a cricket, not the easiest of things to find.

Not seen an Emperor before, very colourful.

I was lucky to get that.  There were plenty of them around but they were flying and too far away to attempt with my 100mm lens.  This one landed on some leaves and stayed still for a while.
