Impressions of Venice

Recommended Posts

John, If I could give an Award on this forum, this study would have received one.......

I’m not sure if you are aware of the huge collection of sketchbooks left in the estate of the late great artist .... J M W TURNER the first `impressionist?

your creation here is so very close to more than one of his beautiful understated colour sketches.....the National Gallery? Has the whole collection online....so seek out his Venice sketchbooks and you should see exactly what I mean.

After watching actor Timothy Spall as....Mr TURNER the movie, I decided to carry out an, in depth study of the man himself and of all of his works.

I am currently producing a series of Watercolours influenced by my studies so far.

more like this please..

Thanks both for the comments.

Fuji that is a compliment indeed - many thanks.  I fear though that my efforts in this direction are more literal than that achieved by Turner with such a beautiful economy of brush strokes.  Thanks also for pointing me at his sketch books which I had never seen before.  Incidentally, I eventually found them on the "Tate" site rather than the "National Gallery " site.  There is a lot to explore and I shall be returning for a longer browse.  Inspired me to have another play and this is nearer the mark perhaps:

I think the second one is stunning John.. I have always been a big fan of Turner  and you have captured some of the essence  of the luminous light that he imbued in his so much of his work... if I was to nit pick and I wont .  <sodemoji.1f609></sodemoji.1f609>.. I'd get rid of that strange pale  drop shadow  that seems to extend along the top  border  for about 5/6 of  the width...
