I have rather a lot of pictures taken yesterday at East Kirkby, I'm guessing it would be better once I have them edited to post a link to my flickr pages but for now here is one of their Lancaster on engine start up

The old engines were a bit smoky, but I'm quite sure in saying that over the winter four new , or rather fully rebuilt Merlins were fitted as part of the return to flight program. The engines were rebuilt by Eye-tech Engineering to airworthy spec.

I think your are correct there Denis, I do have a picture where one engine is putting out a little smoke but nothing much, and a hell of a lot less than when the Dakota fired up.

They don't look that big until you see another vehicle standing by them.

 

certainly is and even bigger and noisier when it goes over your head with all 4 Merlin engines running  :yes
