They usually puff up like that when it's cold to increase the insulating layer of air in their feathers.  Clicks, I think that this is so good as to deserve a bit more PP.   A bit of noise reduction, sharpening, dulling the highlights and losing the spare twig gives you:

Thanks John  ....I appreciate the time you have taken to do that...  this is another one through the window ... .. I'm pretty sure without any  PP again.  I am going to compare the  images and camera settings( without the  double glazing inbetween)   in the next few weeks  to see what the differences are  to find the optimum  setting  for this lens at  different distances and the only way to make real comparisons is to take them straight out of the camera  I think .

I appreciate what you have done too .... I am trying to get some optimum settings saved to the camera for certain scenarios  as it can take  me ages to get them right when I change from  one type of photography to another ... Do you use  the my menu settings ...? i t makes my head hurt sometimes reading through the manual...I still haven't assigned any different roles to the function buttons :blushing:

Another nice shot, John's little twiddle does bring out the most in it though.

This might not apply to your camera, but when I'm shooting birds I use single point focus, continuous shooting, Canon's AI Servo Mode (ie if the bird moves it auto refocuses), Aperture priority and usually -2/3rds EV. I tend to set the iso to 400 or 800 at max and alter the f-stop to get the fastest shutter speed available, for little birds like this 1/100th is usually the slowest, though I'd probably want 1/300th or above, and always for bird shots I do a little sharpening afterwards. If you can try and avoid shooting through glass, the birds will get used to you being outside or close by if there is food is about and if you keep still and quite.
