Couldn't make up my mind - comments please

When I took this, I couldn't decide whether to focus on the foreground and leave the background out of focus, or the reverse.  These were hand held so reducing the aperture and having both in focus , wasn't an option.

I would welcome thoughts on which..

I prefer the foreground in focus, John.
I find that having out-of-focus objects in the foreground on a landscape shot is a bit of a distraction.

In the first one, whilst it's out of focus, there's enough detail in the background for the viewer to see exactly what it is.

I prefer the foreground in of this particular image in focus too. Having played around with my own images from time to time, its also a personal preference. But, it also depends on the image itself, some lend themselves better to a background focus.

I'm with Hatter and Denis - I prefer the first one with the foreground in focus.

I really like both but if I had to choose it would be no. 1. Not much in it though.

Thanks for the feedback Gareth, Denis, Kate and David.   I think that I agree with you.  Hatters comment that as long as the B.G. is recognisable enough to give context makes the difference.  Thanks all.
